Tate Young Patrons Party

Nicholas Kirkwood was a proud supporter of the Tate Young Patrons party at Tate Modern, 21st June 2017

Dancing went on into the early hours at the first Tate Young Patrons Party held at Tate Modern last night to celebrate the generosity of the young patrons who support the museum’s future projects.

The party was held in for the first time at Tate Modern’s Tanks which featured the unveiling of spectacular new works by artists John Akomfrah, Janet Cardiff, Susan Hiller, Otobongo Nkanga and Zineb Sedira.

The Tanks provided an incredible location for the party, Kirkwood projected the ‘Dark Matter’ film based on his autumn winter 2017 collection on to one of the walls for guests to view.

This film directed by Rei Nadal was shot in black and white in triptych format. ‘Dark Matter’ sees model Jess Maybury portray an uninvolved sensuality alternating between both the viewer and director and subject as she strides around a structural set of linear and geometric forms.

Guests, which included Katherine Jenkins and Donna Air, were greeted by Young Patrons Chair Alia Al-Senussi and Young Patrons Ambassadors Aurore Ogden, Alexander Petalas, Federico Martin Castro Debernardi, Bianca Chu, Fiona McGovern, Eugenio Re Rebaudengo, Indoo Sella Di Monteluce, Robert Sheffield, Navann Ty and Tyler Woolcott.

Other guests included film director Rei Nadal, Leanne Elliot, Andre Balazs, Jasmine Chen, Jonathan Cheung, Alex Dellal, Sabrina Ho, Ivan Pun, Milos Raonic, Elisa Sednaoui and Vito Schnabel.

All guests enjoyed the Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Dark Matter’ cocktail which was a summer twist on a Dark and Stormy as well as bountiful bar of Nyetimber sparkling wines.

Highlights of the evening included a special performance by Turner-Prize winning artist Martin Creed and DJ sets by internationally acclaimed artist Jeremy Deller, Tate curator Simon Baker and Ibiza stalwarts Bas Ibelini and Seth Troxler.

Gregor Muir, Director of Tate’s International Art Collection, welcomed guests, thanking Alia Al-Senussi for her passionate dedication to her post of Chair of the Young Patrons during her five-year tenure.  Muir also introduced the incoming new co-chairs of the Young Patrons Aurore Ogden and Alexander Petalas who Al-Senussi is handing over the baton to.
