Nicholas Kirkwood Takes Over The Edouard Malingue Gallery
Nicholas Kirkwood Takes Over The Edouard Malingue Gallery, Hong Kong with the Spring Summer 2018 Collection: ‘An Impression of Stolen Space’ in association with Lane Crawford
The Edouard Malingue modern art gallery in Hong Kong provided the perfect location for an immersive presentation of the Nicholas Kirkwood spring summer 2018 collection. The collection entitled ‘An Impression of Stolen Space’ explores the notion that removing elements from the full picture and alluding to volumes through the use of negative space encourages the imagination to fill in the blanks and complete the picture.
Kirkwood created a set within the gallery that recreated the visual mood of La Muralla Roja, a striking housing development in Spain designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill in the 1960s, that is painted in captivating shades of blue, red and pink. This geometric labyrinth of apartments was the backdrop for Kirkwood’s spring summer 2018 campaign filmed by Rei Nadal a London based artist and director who also collaborated on the autumn winter 2017 collection film entitled ‘Dark Matter’.
Visitors to the space included editors, influencers and Lane Crawford VIP customers. They walked through the experiential collection presentation, which focussed on new styles such as the Eva sandal, Kristen mule and Casati slipper. Guests were then taken in to a VIP room where staff from the Lane Crawford team had an edit of their own collection on sale. Customers shopped Lane Crawford exclusives such as the Casati slippers in navy suede and enjoyed exclusive live customisation by artist Kalo who painted personal insignias on the leather uppers of the shoes or the pearl heels.
