Nicholas Kirkwood Launches SS19 ‘Powered By Nature’

To celebrate the launch of his Spring / Summer 2019 collection, Nicholas Kirkwood has created a bespoke installation, Powered by nature, for retail partners Harrods and Selfridges, which will launch in April and May 2019 respectively.

Designed with Artist & Creative Director Sophie Parker of Brooklyn based botanical studio WIFE NYC, the installations seek to elevate the in-store customer experience of the Nicholas Kirkwood SS19 collection by creating a visual tension between digital and organic, synthetic and natural – a conceptual representation of the world we live in today. The creative concept comes from a desire to juxtapose the inspiration behind the Spring Summer 2019 collection – a man made dystopia of computer hackers and data – with a warmer natural, light filled world. An intricately woven display of flowers collides with monitors and exposed wires to create a sense machinery being powered by plants. Set on a concrete stand, the ikebana style floral arrangements will emerge from the centre of the installation, where a screen displaying pixelated images, coding, data moshing and digital interlacing is surrounded by black cables and risers with digital screens.

The installation will take both a sculptural and minimal approach to floral design – each arrangement will have a geometric composition and monochromatic theme of its own. A colour palette of blacks, purples and deep greens contrast with pops of bright white, celadon green and indigo.

The installations will be live in the Harrods Knightsbridge flagship from 1st April until 31st May 2019, and in the Selfridges Oxford Street flagship from 13th April until 5th May 2019.
